Magnet School Coordinator

 

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and support to develop, implement and sustain a quality Magnet program.  This position assists teachers and administrators in the curriculum, instruction, assessment, and organizational goals of the District’s Magnet Program by providing coaching, consulting within the assigned magnet school, and collaboration between the district’s magnet schools.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Collaborate with classroom teachers and counselors to develop theme(s) integration across the disciplines, including school-wide thematic units.
•Provide ongoing teaching and learning artifacts as to theme integration and implementation.
•Serve as a member of the school’s instructional leadership team and collaborate with other members of the team to provide a comprehensive approach to implementing curriculum, instruction, assessment, and organizational goals of the school and district.
•Provide professional development to teachers and staff to accelerate the use of exemplary instructional practices and improve student achievement through the lens of the school’s theme(s).
•Assist personnel new to the school/program and act as a resource to Magnet teachers for training opportunities and materials/equipment.
•Assist in developing a culturally responsive school/community climate (through professional development, student activities, etc.) in which students feel safe and engaged.
•Coordinate enrichment activities such as field trips, speakers, and educational presentations aligned to the magnet theme, and which support school/district goals.
•Conduct classroom walkthroughs and peer observations (specific to Magnet schools) and offer feedback for improvement.
•Assist in monitoring student success in classes using observations, benchmark tests, standardized test results, progress reports, attendance data, and discipline data.
•Develop magnet theme(s) promotional materials and share this information with faculty, student body, and local community through faculty meetings, websites, social media, school brochures, magnet fairs, schools showcases, open houses, and as requested by the Student Assignment Office.
•Confer with prospective students and parents and initiate parental/community involvement activities.
•Seek business and community support for theme-aligned opportunities, and college/career connections.
•Confront preconceptions and model open dialogue about race, culture, class and other issues of difference with peers, staff, students and the community.
•Assist with vertical articulation collaborations among schools within strand, i.e. IB/Global, STEM/STEAM, College-Career Ready, ARTS, Language Immersion.
•Coordinate, research, and write grant proposals and Magnet Schools of America Merit Award applications.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
•Knowledge of the District, School Board, and Magnet Office policies, procedures, and standards.
•Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs and make recommendations for improvement.
•Ability to work effectively with students and staff.
•Ability to effectively present information to faculty, staff, and students.
•Ability to work with minimal supervision.
•Skill in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams Meeting, as well as Google Drive.
•Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
•Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Education and two years’ Magnet School teaching experience and/or one year of administrative, supervisor, or coordinator experience in an educational setting.
•Desirable: Master’s Degree in Education and two years’ Magnet School teaching and/or coordinator experience.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
•Valid NC Teachers License
