FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to offer additional office assistance for parents and families in schools. The Family Support Assistant provides positive experiences for parents and families as they interact with school personnel. The Family Support Assistant supports communication for parents and families with the school and community organization, when applicable, and coordinates communication about academics, behavioral, and social-emotional services offered. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist front office staff with answering parent and families’ questions in a language they prefer to help problem solve.
• Connect parents and families with school personnel and community resources, when applicable.
• Guide parents and families through WS/FCS and state processes and procedures.
• Promote mutual respect, understanding and support between school, parents and families.
• May provide support to parents and families during parent conferences and home visits in an Interpreter/Translator role.
• May assist in translating documents to/from English and the native language.
• Help to assure that services provided to parents, families and children are culturally responsive manner.
• Ensure that confidentiality is maintained regarding families and children.
• Keep, complete, and update accurate records.
• May perform other related duties as assigned and as allowed under the federal grant.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Fluency and literacy in appropriate language at conversational level for site population.
• Excellent customer service skills, both in person and over the telephone.
• Ability to assist school personnel with arranging translation and interpretation support.
• Ability to secure the cooperation of students/parents, obtain needed information and provide guidance toward needed services for them.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, community service agencies, school officials and staff.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment such as telephone, computer, copies, facsimile machine, etc.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum: High School Diploma/GED and fluency in target language
• Desirable: Successful school-based or human service work experience related to working directly with children and families.
• Bilingual Preferred

 

Pay Grade 58 - Monthly Salary $2,755.95 - Full Time Position
