Description | EC Instructional Coach
FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The coach will train and support the implementation of evidenced-based instructional interventions, strategies, and methodologies to support instruction in all levels (elementary, middle school, and high school). The purpose of this position is to utilize the coaching cycle to successfully implement reading, writing, and math interventions that include planning, implementation, observation, feedback/reflection, and data analysis to determine the efficacy of instruction of students with disabilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communicate with school-based staff, administrators, District EC teams, and related stakeholders regarding the educational needs of students with disabilities.
- Collaborate and problem solve with school-based personnel regarding specific school/student instructional needs.
- Support teachers in their EC classrooms through coaching, modeling, and mentoring.
- Conduct data analysis to determine intervention effectiveness and instructional changes or next steps.
- Provide training and implementation support with recommended interventions, including fidelity observations and feedback.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement program training and professional development for teachers and Exceptional Children’s staff at all levels to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Oversee inventory and distribution of materials for EC instructional programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of the stages of reading and language development and math competencies
- Expertise in and knowledge of other instructional methodologies for teaching reading and/or math to students with persistent learning difficulties
- Knowledge of adult learning-professional development best practices
- Knowledge of NC Standard Course of Study and Extended Content Standards
- Knowledge of coaching models
- High level of skills in record-keeping and strong organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of Federal and North Carolina regulations governing students with disabilities
- Strong computer skills including knowledge of software programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Zoom, Canvas, Google Platforms
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education AND five years’ work experience as an Exceptional Children’s Classroom teacher with experience using Evidence-Based Practices/Methodologies.
- Desirable: Master’s Degree in Education (Special Education, Reading, Math, Curriculum & Instruction, Leadership) AND five years’ work experience including three years Exceptional Children’s Classroom Teacher and one-year Instructional Coach role.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid NC Exceptional Children Teacher’s License
